This hat is based on my Every Year Hat (pattern coming soon), but instead of a plain garter stitch border, it has a lattice pie type weave as the bottom border, and optional ear covers with braids. I created this hat in a rush last fall when it became obvious that my kids no longer wanted to wear hat and scarf combos that I have been relying on for the winter and needed something else that was very warm (9F anyone?).
The version in these pictures is made from Good Kharma Yarn’s worsted weight yarn (the color is Hibiscus). I knit the hat at a little bit tighter gauge than the yarn truly needs to make it really warm and well insulating. Typically, my kids don’t tie up the braids, but it’s easy to make them both long and thin enough to tie.
I am also working on a scarf that is a cylinder as neither of my kids’ schools allow for the long wrap around scarves.
